This listing is for an underkimono - called a juban in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

The design of this juban features alternating horizontal bands in dark and light gray-brown as the background.  Floating on top is a series of soshi - traditional small booklets that typically depict an element of Japanese culture - paintings, poems, or stories. The tiny drawings in these books focus on floral and landscapes, along with calligraphy that likely describes the imagery. Scattered in between the soshi are stylized, ancient kanji characters. 

The over-collar is black and the kimono is unlined except for a cream cotton lining at the shoulders. The fabric is a wool blend that is smooth to the touch, not scratchy.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
