This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Learn more about this type of kimono below.

A relaxed, story-driven garment, this men's underkimono features horizontal bands of coastal village scenes, with small boats, shoreline homes, and distant hills rendered in soft gray-blue tones. Between these scenic panels are scattered motifs that resemble broken pottery fragments, adding an unexpected, archeological feel. The combination gives it a layered look, blending everyday riverside life with the idea of objects weathered by time.

Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
