This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Learn more about this type of kimono below.

A classic example of texture meeting pattern, this msn's underkimono features soft, flowing bands of shibori-dyed waves in shades of gray and cream. The design has a natural, almost organic rhythm, created through traditional resist-dye techniques where the fabric is bound before dyeing.

You can still see the tiny pinholes from the shibori process, a subtle detail that speaks to its handmade origins. Smooth, lightweight silk with a gentle sheen and cream lining.

Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.

If you'd like to display the kimono, we offer hanging rods in five colors (brown, black, natural, white, and red) - see the Add a Display Rod? tab below.
