This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Learn more about this type of kimono below.

A piece that feels like it carries a story, this man's underkimono features horizontal bands of handwritten-style kanji layered with books, pine branches, and small symbolic objects. The text appears to be poetic or literary in nature, likely referencing classical themes of seasons, travel, or reflection. The books reinforce the scholarly tone, while the pine motifs add a traditional symbol of longevity and resilience.

Dark blue over-collar and no lining. The length has been folded and stitched at the waist, but the stitches could be removed if more length is desired.

There are very small holes along the middle back seam, see last photo.

Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.

If you'd like to display the kimono, we offer hanging rods in five colors (brown, black, natural, white, and red) - see the Add a Display Rod? tab below.
