Understated on the outside, powerful on the inside -- this man's haori features a deep blue woven grid exterior paired with a striking monochrome lining of shishi (guardian lion dogs or fu dogs). Rendered in soft shades of gray with subtle gold accents, the shishi move across a misty, abstract background, giving the interior a sense of motion and quiet strength. Traditionally associated with protection and warding off evil, these figures bring symbolic depth to the garment. 

The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We often display these jackets inside out to show the lining, and they could be worn this way - inside out - as well; a style that is becoming trendy among Japanese youth.
