This listing is for a traditional underkimono (juban in Japanese) designed to be worn beneath a woman's kimono. Underkimono make great robes because they are shorter than over-kimono so they don't have the extra length that is folded over to pad the waist. This kimono is white silk with a jacquard of snow-covered grasses. In Japanese this snow motif is called yuki and represents an auspicious meaning as snow replenishes the earth for bountiful harvests. 

Underkimono have a basic white collar which would be covered with an embroidered over-collar - the only part of this garment that would be seen by the public.  An over-collar is added to match the formality of the outer kimono. This juban has a simple, plain white silk over-collar.
