This listing is for a traditional underkimono (juban in Japanese) designed to be worn beneath a furisode style kimono (note the longer sleeves). Underkimono make great robes because they are shorter than over-kimono so they don't have the extra length that is folded over to pad the waist. See the video below about how juban are traditionally worn.

This kimono uses several iterations of the checkerboard pattern, called ichimatsu in Japanese.  Large squares, bands of small squares, and the placement of offset squares at the pattern edging - quite artistic!

The unique color combination of mustard yellow and coral seems very "retro' to us, which contrasts with the delicate, traditional embroidery of pine and florals on the collar.

Underkimono have a basic white collar which would be covered with an embroidered over-collar - the only part of this garment that would be seen by the public.  An over-collar is added to match the formality of the outer kimono, which in this case would be a very formal furisode.

This kimono doesn't include a belt, but we do offer casual cotton sashes that can be added at checkout.  If you're planning to display this kimono, consider our 60" hanging rods, which can also be added at check out.
