This listing is for a traditional underkimono (juban in Japanese) designed to be worn beneath a woman's kimono.

A playful print with traditional meaning. This juban features a white background scattered with small pink tied gourds, known as hyotan, arranged in an even, allover pattern. The simple repeat gives it a light, graphic look from a distance, while the motif carries symbolism of good fortune, protection, and prosperity.

Underkimono make wonderful robes because they are cut shorter than outer kimono, so they do not have the extra length that is typically folded at the waist for traditional dressing. The lighter weight and streamlined shape make them easy to slip on and wear without added bulk. Perfect for the beach, poolside lounging, summer cover ups, or effortless layering at home or out and about.

The belt is not included, but if you'd like to wear or display this kimono with a traditional obi, browse our selection of OBI BELTS. Although it isn't traditional, if you'd like one of our simple cotton sashes to wear with this, we'll choose a complimenting color (see Add a Sash? above).
