This listing is for a decorative image taken from a vintage Japanese katagami stencil, suitable for framing.  It is not part of the original stencil - it is a copied image, machine-cut, on thick art paper. This is the chrysanthemum crest (kiku-mon), a revered emblem of the Imperial House of Japan symbolizing longevity, renewal, and divine authority. With its radiant, perfectly balanced petals, the crest represents the sun, harmony and the enduring continuity of the imperial line.  As such, this crest is rare to find on a kimono, though some temples and shrines associated with the royal family may incorporate it into their crest.  

Your purchase includes only a sheet of the katagami art and a contrasting piece of cardstock to place behind it. You can choose black or white and 8" x 8" square or 8"x 10".
