This listing is for one yard of reclaimed vintage Japanese fabric salvaged from a cotton summer kimono, called a yukata.

This fabric is a light-weight cotton in white and blue with a pattern of quartered blue wheels and in each section, a different image of summer (fireworks, maiko and train, jumping koi, and mochi on a stick!).  Kanji lettering and an interesting "boomerang" element behind the wheels that was created by varying the width of the vertical bands.

Great for piecework, especially when combined with other vintage yukata remnants. Multiple pieces may be available.

When we find vintage (circa 1950s but could be older or newer by two decades) Japanese kimono or haori in less-than-sellable condition, we salvage what we can and offer it to artisans, quilters, crafters, and designers for project work. So the fabric has been previously sewn and though we carefully deconstruct the kimono, previous seam lines, as well as minor blemishes, may need to be worked around or trimmed away.

The inspiring designs, hand work, and the ageless beauty of vintage Japanese textiles make all the extra work so worthwhile. See video below for inspriation on upcycling vintage Japanese textiles.
