This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.

This haori is likely from the Taisho Period (early 1920s), as suggested by the longer sleeves, the bright lining, the feel of the silk, the soft jacquard weave, and the color itself.  Woven into that gorgeous jacquard silk are tone-on-tone stalks of bamboo joints filled with smaller geometrics elements.

The single crest at the neck is also unusual - three ginko leaves that seem to create a bush clover design, all encircled with a scrolling outline that refers to snowflakes.

The lining is bright orange and cream with a wheel and floral design.

Unfortunately, this haori does have some darker areas on the front right sleeve, but they could pass as shadows and not noticed when it is worn. See last photo.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately. We'll select one that goes with this haori if you pick the Add A Himo Pair option above. To choose a pair of our fancier himo, CLICK HERE.

Going to display this haori? We offer wooden display rods in a variety of colors. Add one from the tab below this description.
