This listing is for a vintage tenugui - traditional Japanese cotton hand towel.

Delicate sprays of purple wisteria cascade gracefully across this traditional Japanese tenugui, their flowing vines and layered foliage creating an elegant, minimalist composition. Wisteria (fuji) symbolizes longevity, humility, enduring love, and grace, making this a timeless botanical design. The inscription identifies Fuji no Ya, "House of Wisteria", a traditional inn formerly located in front of Nikko City Hall.

There are signs of age with stains, fading, mottling, and edge wear consistent with vintage textiles. See photos and zoom in for details.

Tenugui hand towels have countless uses, from drying hands and wrapping gifts to home decor, crafting, and displaying.

See the video about the chusen dyeing technique often used in making tenugui hand towels.
