This listing is for a vintage, formal, Japanese kimono called a tomesode (sometimes called kurosode or "Mother of the Bride" kimono), which are typically reserved for very formal occasions, such as weddings or performances. There are always at least three - but usually five - family crests on the upper section (one at the neck, one on the back of each sleeve, and one on each side of the collar) and an elegant design that stretches across the entire hemline, with more of the image in the front, where it would be seen best.

This tomesode features a cascading floral that sweeps across the hemline. Look closely to see three kimono-clad children playing in the garden. Two on the front panel seem to be climbing a fence, and one on the back might be hiding under the plum blossoms.

The colors are bright and plentiful, and the delicate details painted in the faces and kimono of the children are impressive.

Unfortunately there is a blemish on the left front sleeve - residue perhaps left from a tag of some sort. The kimono is otherwise in excellent condition.

The family crest is paulownia.
