This listing is for a man's Japanese summer kimono - called a yukata. These are unlined cotton robes usually worn to casual gatherings or for summer festivals. Yukata are also sometimes offered to guests in Japanese inns and hotels.

Yukata are popular these days as bath robes, beach or poolside cover ups, or for Japanese festivals or sushi parties anywhere in the world.

The pattern on this kimono suggests that its original over was a fan of Noh Theater. Look closely at the angled lines until you see a stylized oni mask: a scowling face – knitted eyebrows, crinkled nose, mustache, dimpled chin…

As with any vintage cotton kimono with a white base color, there may be small blemishes here and there, but they do not detract from the wearability or visual impact of this yukata.

Yukata can be worn with a casual sash or even styled with a contemporary belt of scarf.  If you’d like something traditional, we sometimes have casual hanhaba (half-width) obi in our shop, but we also offer a simple cotton sash that can be added to your order by clicking the option above. We'll choose a color that goes with or contrasts nicely with the yukata.

See the videos below for how to put on a casual kimono or yukata as well as a slide show of many beautiful ones!
