This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner.

The lining of this man's kimono jacket features a depiction of Ebisu, the Lucky God of Wealth, as a big-bellied Buddha-like character. He carries a fishing pole over his shoulder and a huge white sack of treasures (presumedly).

The background silk is a golden brown and note that the sleeve lining silk is white - perhaps replaced at some point or simply done this way to highlight the main focus.

The outer silk is solid black with three melon crests.

Unfortunately, this jacket does have mottling along the shoulders and some blemishes further down the lining, see last photo. Priced accordingly, but still makes a compelling decor piece.

We display these haori inside out to feature the lining when it is unique. All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way.

If you need a display rod to hang your purchase, we offer 60" wooden rods - see tab below.

See video below for how haori are worn these days.
