This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.

Rich and earthy, this vintage furoshiki brings a calming forest presence to any gift or display. The deep green cotton is accented with a beautiful cream crest of go san kiri, the traditional paulownia crest, which has long symbolized good fortune, protection, and noble lineage in Japan.

There are some natural dye variations in the cotton cloth and signs of use with fading towards the middle which adds character and authenticity.

41" x 47"

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
