This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This juban features layered bands that seem to connect to each other with a Japanese joinery shape that holds wooden pieces together without nails. Charming motif of small wooden plaques called ema, which are prayer tiles that are inscribed with a wish and left with a donation at a shrine, where they would be burned at a special event. (See last photo.)

Don't miss the lines of gourds or calabash in the background which matches well with the ema as gourds are a motif that brings good luck.

The over-collar is black, and the juban is lined in white. The fabric is a lightweight wool blend - not scratchy. 

There is a small blemish on the left sleeve, but still in excellent wearing condition, see photo.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
