This listing is for a man's Japanese summer kimono - called a yukata. These are unlined cotton robes usually worn to casual gatherings or for summer festivals. Yukata are also sometimes offered to guests in Japanese inns and hotels. Yukata are popular these days as bath robes, beach or poolside cover ups, or for Japanese festivals or sushi parties anywhere in the world.

At first glance, this yukata sems like a traditional grid with a repeated crest. But look closer to discover that the "crest" is actually quite unusual!  It appears to say "1st" stylized in Art-Nouveau typography. Perhaps this is a commemorative motif made for a group or festival event. The blue is more cobalt than the usual dark indigo, which adds to the uniqueness and gives the design a playful nature.

We paired this yukata with one of our casual cotton sashes in a complimenting shade of blue. This is a contemporary style belt - not vintage - that is 5 inches wide and 6 feet long.

There are some blemishes, see last photos, but they are not distracting from the design.

See the videos below for how to put on a casual kimono or yukata as well as a slide show of many beautiful ones!
