This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This remarkable men's underkimono tells a story in shades of blue -- hand-dyed using the intricate kanoko (fawn spot) shibori resist technique. Against soft gradients of slate blue and navy, travelers in woven hats climb a mountain path beneath tall pines and distant peaks, their figures rendered in tiny, precise dots of white. The artistry captures both motion and history, evoking pilgrimage scenes reminiscent of Edo-era woodblock landscapes. Lightweight gray lining.

There is some discoloration on the front sleeve, see last photo.

Juban make great robes and cover ups but watch the video below to see how to layer the juban with a kimono.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.

If you'd like to display the kimono, we offer hanging rods in five colors (brown, black, natural, white, and red) - see the Add a Display Rod? tab below.
