This listing is for a vintage kimono made for a young girl. It is quite festive, brilliantly colored and features a collage of motifs that jumble into an eye-catching art piece. The bright colors, dense patterning, and the texture of the silk all suggest that this kimono is from the 1950s or earlier.
This kimono features a soft pink silk with a flowing stream motif in red that weaves down the length. Floating along on the water are delicately drawn floral bouquets. Behind the surface design is a floral jacquard woven into the silk that catches the light.
Children's kimono often come with two long ties sewn to each side of the front collar. The right-side tie would be threaded behind the left side kimono panel, through the opening under the arm, around the back, and tied with the tie from the left side. A belt, sash or obi would then be tied over that for a finished look. (We offer a simple cotton version of this as an add-on option.)
There is a small blemish on the back - see last photo - but we feel that it does not detract from the beauty of this piece.
Although it makes a dazzling display, it is still quite wearable - but please check the measurements against the child to confirm the fit before ordering. Kimono run small and remember that some of the length would be taken up at the waist when belted.
