This listing is for a set of four vintage tenugui - traditional Japanese cotton hand towels.

The first towel features large blue kanji squares that say "Tatami Replacement" while the smaller text below reads "Tsukahara Yoshiei Tatami Shop, Aizu-Tajima Town, Specializing in tatami re-covering" with a telephone number.

The second towel includes kanji that reads "Use the Agricultural Cooperative for a more prosperous life, Tajima Town Agricultural Cooperative". It also shows a yellow circular emblem that contains the character for cooperation and a stylized stalk of rice.

The third towel is advertising Shinkin Bank with the slogan "A credit union you can trust".

The fourth towel combines black and red kanji that reads "Commemorative towel celebrating the completion of Ichigu Hall at Rihozan Zenjo-in Temple".

There are signs of age with stains, fading, mottling, and edge wear consistent with vintage textiles. See photos and zoom in for details.

Tenugui hand towels have countless uses, from drying hands and wrapping gifts to home decor, crafting, and displaying.

See the video about the chusen dyeing technique often used in making tenugui hand towels.
