This listing is for a set of four vintage tenugui - traditional Japanese cotton hand towels.

The first towel features an overall blue polka dot pattern with red kanji saying Joto Iwai meaning congratulations on the roof raising.

The second towel includes kanji that reads "Sakamotoya", while the smaller text identifies "Kiyotaki, Nikkō City", preserving a connection to a local business in the historic gateway to Nikkō's temples and mountain scenery.

The third towel has lucky motifs with kanji that says "Post Office Savings, everyone's safe place for savings, Tajima Post Office".

The fourth towel combines a large folding fan with text that says "Maru-Ichi Construction, contractor for civil engineering and building construction".

There are signs of age with stains, fading, mottling, and edge wear consistent with vintage textiles. See photos and zoom in for details.

Tenugui hand towels have countless uses, from drying hands and wrapping gifts to home decor, crafting, and displaying.

See the video about the chusen dyeing technique often used in making tenugui hand towels.
