This listing is for a vintage kimono made for a young teen to wear to a formal event, likely the Shich-Go-San Festival. (The Shichi-Go-San Festival is a rite-of-passage held on November 15th, when girls and boys aged seven (shichi), five (go) and three (san) go to their local shrine to celebrate their growth and health. This kimono is typical of what a seven-year-old girl might wear.

The size of the kimono suggests it could be worn by a young teen, but likely it had been tucked/darted/hemmed to a smaller size that she might have worn to the Shichi-Go-San Festival when she was younger.

We get a winter-to-spring feeling from the design: red cresting waves and dashed silver lines seem storm-like, but behind them are bands of pastel colors, as if in a rainbow.

Vintage Japanese children's kimono make eye-catching displays in spaces too small to accommodate a full sized kimono or haori. We offer display rods (below) if you're going to display this kimono or simple cotton sashes (see option above) if this is to be worn more casually than with a traditional obi.
