This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. Learn more about this type of garment below. 

A serene Japanese sanctuary emerges through drifting clouds across the pale silk lining, beautifully hand-painted with a sweeping tiled roof, broad ceremonial steps, red architectural accents, and a fruit-laden citrus tree picked out in touches of gold. The unusually precise architectural rendering gives the scene the feeling of a portrait of a real sacred building, and don't miss the small calligraphic signature and seal at the lower left.

The understated black outer silk is finished with five white oak leaf family crests.

The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We often display these jackets inside out to show the lining, and they could be worn this way - inside out - as well; a style that is becoming trendy among Japanese youth.
