This listing is for a vintage michiyuki jacket, meant to be worn over a kimono. A square neckline, inner ties to keep the hemline straight, snap closure, and a hidden pocket on the right front panel are the specific features of a michiyuki - michi means "street" and yuki refers to "going out".

The michiyuki features a kiredori style floral design. Kiredori is a patchwork technique that uses strategically layered scrap fabric and stitching to create different motifs and designs. The elements on this jacket imitate that technique - the boxed florals are woven, not pieced. Look even closer to see the swirls, curves, triangles, and diamonds woven into the silk beneath.

Hidden pocket in the front - perfect to hold glasses keys, or other light items.

Michiyuki are a narrow garment, fastened with snaps that will open if the fit is too tight. (The measurement we give is the jacket snapped closed, so your hips and waist measurement should be several inches smaller than the hips/waist measurement we give.)
