This listing is for a vintage kimono made for a young girl. It is quite festive, dyed a brilliant magenta color.

The design was printed or stenciled, meant to imitate the shibori (tie-dye) technique. - even the yellow and blue flowers that are scattered about. See the video below to learn about Japanese stencils.

The featured element is the gosho-guruma (imperial cart) that seems to break through the cloud of shibori dots that otherwise fill the field.  Behind the patterning is a sayagata motif, sometimes called a lightening pattern.
Children's kimono often come with two long ties sewn to each side of the front collar.  The right-side tie would be threaded behind the left side kimono panel, through the opening under the arm, around the back, and tied with the tie from the left side. A belt, sash or obi would then be tied over that for a finished look.  (We offer a simple cotton version of this as an add-on option.)

Although it makes a dazzling display, it is still quite wearable - but please check the measurements against the child to confirm the fit before ordering. Kimono run small and remember that some of the length would be taken up at the waist when belted.

Vintage Japanese children's kimono make eye-catching displays in spaces too small to accommodate a full-sized kimono. We offer display rods (click the tab below) if you're going to display this kimono.
