This listing is for a traditional Japanese hair ornament called kanzashi.  Kanzashi is a generic term for a wide variety of these accessories - including long, rigid hairpins, barrettes, fabric flowers, combs and fabric hair ties - which are worn in traditional Japanese hairstyles.  Click here to learn more about the many forms of kanzashi.

Refined and stately, this kanzashi comb features a deep red bow made of soft crepe textured rayon and edged in plum purple for a subtle contrast. At its heart lies a striking arrangement: a traditional red lacquer-style hair stick entwined with twisted cords of gold and red. The two prong hair stick could potentially be removed and used as a separate hair accessory; however, it is quite tightly nested in, and we didn't want to force it out. It is beautifully painted with small flowers and leaves - gold on black with red prongs.

Functional and ornamental, these kanzashi combs are perfect for traditional wear with a kimono, especially during Shichi-Go-San, Coming of Age Day, or wedding ceremonies. They can also be worn without the kimono adding a unique vintage touch to any updo, bun or twist for your special event. See the video below for a stunning collection of antique and vintage kanzashi.
