This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. Learn more about this type of garment below.

A quiet garden moment unfolds across this beautifully detailed lining, with two small birds perched among lush hydrangea and peony blossoms, delicately painted in muted greens, blues, and warm golden yellow. A pale circular moon glows behind the flowers, while the artist's signature and seals add the feeling of a traditional Japanese painting.

Hydrangeas evoke the changing seasons, while peonies symbolize prosperity, beauty, and good fortune. The image is framed by blue woven bands across the top and bottom with a cream lining that also features a subtle woven jacquard of small Daruma-like figures.  The outer fabric is a deep blue silk with fine tonal stripes.

Signs of age are present, including a few small holes in the outer fabric, see last photo.

The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We often display these jackets inside out to show the lining, and they could be worn this way - inside out - as well; a style that is becoming trendy among Japanese youth. See video below for how haori are worn these days.

If you need a display rod to hang your purchase, we offer 60" wooden rods - see tab below.
