A beautiful blend of botanical elegance and geometric precision, this vintage katagami stencil features repeating circular wreaths of delicately stylized leaves and blossoms. Hundreds of tiny, curved cuts create intricate, lace-like floral arrangements, while small diamond shapes and short parallel lines form a subtle geometric grid between the wreaths. Faded handwritten Japanese markings along the borders add an intriguing glimpse into the stencil's working history.

Measuring 17" x 13", this stencil shows signs of age and use, including discoloration, handwritten markings, creases, and worn or torn edges, particularly along the upper left corner.

These stencils are still usable but would need a gentle touch and to be moistened before use.  Nowadays, more durable plastic versions are used.

These vintage Japanese katagami stencils were used to create intricate patterns on textiles, particularly kimono fabrics.
