This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket. Learn more about this type of garment below.

A joyful burst of pink, this jacket layers ume (plum blossom) motifs, creating a playful collage. The blossoms are stenciled, giving them clean and crisp edges. Plum blossoms are a classic symbol of resilience and renewal, blooming in late winter.

Inside, the lining adds a striking contrast with an orange and white arrow-feather (yagasuri) pattern, traditionally associated with determination and moving forward, often tied to life milestones.

Signs of age are present consistent with a well-loved vintage piece, adding character and authenticity, see last photos.

A woman's haori is a traditional Japanese jacket worn over a kimono, designed to provide both warmth and an added layer of formality. Today, these jackets transition effortlessly into modern fashion as a lightweight, open-front layer. They can be worn over dresses, denim, or simple basics to add texture, color, and a distinctive, artful touch.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately. We'll select one that goes with this haori if you pick the Add A Himo Pair option above. To choose a pair of our fancier himo, CLICK HERE.

Going to display this haori? We offer wooden display rods in five colors to choose from. Add one from the tab below this description.
