This is a slightly modified vintage Japanese kimono jacket designed to offer a roomier fit.

The silk is so soft and creamy - a delight to wear. A rich orange color with a design of thousands of shibazakura - a little pink flower that grows in a canopy just as depicted on the silk. The design is enhanced by a "through the canopy" view here and there that reveals the stems of the flower. Done with a katagami stencil - see video below for how those are made and used.

Each Japanique Jacket starts out as a vintage michiyuki, which is a narrow jacket with snap closures meant to be worn on top of a kimono. Most vintage michiyuki won't fit larger frames, so we modified the traditional garment slightly (removed the snaps and tacked the panels back to create lapels) to make a roomier, open, flowing jacket that can fit sizes 12-18.

Our Japanique Jackets can also be crossed over and belted on a smaller sized person.

These are all one-of-a-kind jackets, so sizing will vary slightly, see measurements given.
