This listing is for a vintage Japanese nagoya obi. Learn more about this type of kimono below.

At first glance, you might see only pure black silk. Then, like a curtain parting, a vivid garden scene appears. This nagoya obi features a richly colored tableau of courtly figures from the Meiji Period as well as stylized pines, flowing water, and blooming chrysanthemums - all framed by dramatic cloud-like bands that create the feeling of peering into another world. Storytelling elegance!

Don't miss the small maker's mark in red - a signed piece that was likely quite expensive.

Nagoya obi are a popular style that is pre-folded and sewn narrower at one end, making it easier to tie than a full width obi.
