This listing is for a pre-cut and pieced bolt of kimono fabric that was intended to be made into an adult sized kimono but was never sewn.

Endless rows of stylized waves give this vintage kimono silk a beautifully rhythmic look in rich maroon and luminous cream. The woven seigaiha pattern overlaps in repeating concentric arcs, a traditional motif associated with peaceful seas, good fortune, and the hope for a long, steady life, while a subtle speckled jacquard adds another layer of texture and shimmer to the ground.

Originally prepared for construction into a woman's kimono, the bolt has been marked for cuts of the collar and gussets but has already been cut into sections for the bodice and sleeves -- and then was stitched back into a continuous bolt.

Greabut was never assembled, making it an unusual source of coordinated vintage silk for sewing, clothing, accessories, pillows, patchwork, and textile projects.

The total length of the bolt is about 12 yards, with two 3+yard panels, two 1+yard panels, and 3 yards of narrow pieces.

Signs of age may be present, including light wear, small marks, or subtle variations consistent with vintage textiles.
