This jacket is a real treasure. We believe the silk was upcycled from a long kimono, where the elaborate jacquard pattern of a treasure cart would have shimmered on its own.

In this version, the jacquard is covered in a layer of mottled autumn colors, with a basketweave pattern painted on top of that. Look closely to see the freehand brushstrokes. And to top it off, the silk itself is light, smooth, and luxurious to wear.

(Sorry, there's no secret pocket on this jacket!)

Each Japanique Jacket starts out as a vintage michiyuki, which is a narrow jacket with snap closures meant to be worn on top of a kimono. Most vintage michiyuki won't fit larger frames, so we modified the traditional garment slightly (removed the snaps and tacked the panels back to create lapels) to make a roomier, open, flowing jacket that can fit sizes 12-18. Japanique Jackets could also be crossed over and belted on a smaller sized person. These are all one-of-a-kind jackets, so sizing will vary slightly, see measurements given.
