This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono and obi combination.

The kimono is understated elegance. A deep indigo blue background with delicately woven thin vertical lines in a rainbow of colors, including thin metalic threads that shimmer when they catch the light. White basting stitches on the sleeves suggest it was never worn.

The red silk lining that peeks out at the sleeve edges was a popular feature of kimono in the 1920s and 1930s, but the rest of the kimono seems newer than that. The longer 24" sleeves suggest this was made for an unmarried woman.

We believe the fabirc is cotton or perhaps a cotton-silk blend. Lined in cotton, excellent condition.
Length=57in
Wrist-to-wrist=50in
Waist/hips=46in

The obi seems to be fukuro style, which is typically 14in wide for the entire 1 yard length, but this obi has no backing (see last photo) for the belt portion of the obi, so would be folded over to hide the backside and make it easier to wrap around the waist.

This is a summer obi, semi-sheer, in a beautiful blue with arching grasses in colors similar to the rainbow threads of the kimono. We are very pleased with the combination of the larger scale patterning of the obi complimenting the smaller scale but similar patterning of the kimono.
