This listing is for a complete set of vintage hanafuda cards. Hanafuda is a traditional Japanese card game that blends art, strategy, and seasonal symbolism.

This set features bold artwork across all twelve months, including the iconic crane and sun of January, the willow and swallow of November, and the chrysanthemum, peony, and wisteria groups that collectors always enjoy.

The outer box shows a classic Tengu illustration with the text that reads "Tengu Cards", along with text along the bottom meaning "Nintendo". Nintendo was well known for their hanafuda game sets, long before their production of video games, and still produce card sets today. The case has a carved cutout paulownia design that adds a decorative touch. The deck is complete and includes a blank spare card stamped with the character that means "grant" or "fulfill".

This set is in very good vintage condition but has some mottling on the imagery and a crack in the outer case. Each card is 1.25 inches x 2 inches.

The last photo shows an example of a traditional set, however there can be variations in the artwork. For rules and instructions on the basic Japanese game, click here.
