This listing is for a decorative image taken from a vintage Japanese katagami stencil, suitable for framing.  It is not part of the original stencil - it is a copied image, machine-cut, on thick art paper. See below for how these traditional stencils were designed, cut by hand and used to pattern Japanese textiles.

This image features a large family crest often referred to as a "melon" crest in English but is called odauri or oda mokku in Japanese.  It is associated with Oda Nobunaga, a ruling samurai who is credited with trying to unite Japan back in the 16th Century.

Your purchase includes only a sheet of the katagami art and a contrasting piece of cardstock to place behind it. Photos show examples of how placing different colored paper or fabric behind the stencil can change the display. The last photos give suggestions for framing.
