This is a dochugi style vintage kimono jacket, which crosses over in the kimono style (unlike the haori style which hangs open in the front). But instead of needing an obi, it closes with inner and outer ties, which can be tied loosely to allow for a more generous fit. Where haori are best for up to a size 12, dochugi can fit up to a size 16+.

This dochugi is an understated, casual jacket. Indigo cotton lining with an outer shell of silk ikat in blue with a tan/drown design. The small repeat patterning is common for a casual or work garment, so we wonder if this dochugi was once owned by a shop keeper. It's soft - broken in - but still as sturdy and wearable as it was in the beginning.

Please note that the measurement given for the waist/hips is the full, edge-to-edge measurement around the middle. The ties can usually add 3-4 additional inches of coverage depending on how tightly or loosely they are tied.

Dochugi are often worn by shop keepers or studio artisans in Japan, so they may feature tapered sleeves and cross-over ties to keep the wearer warm and the fabric out of the way while providing a tailored, professional look.
