This listing is for one yard of reclaimed vintage Japanese fabric salvaged from a vintage Japanese kimono.

This fabric has an interesting pattern of small, horizontal bands of odd symbols and shapes that appear to be inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics! Perhaps you can figure out the story the designer intended to tell!?

Black background with cream and coral creating the pattern. If you look closely, you can see very subtle crackling that we suspect comes from a wax resist - a technique known as roketsuzome (batik) in Japanese. Click HERE if you are interested in learning more about this.

Great for piecework, especially when combined with other vintage kimono remnants. Multiple pieces may be available.

When we find vintage (circa 1950s but could be older or newer by two decades) Japanese kimono or haori in less-than-sellable condition, we salvage what we can and offer it to artisans, quilters, crafters, and designers for project work. So, the fabric has been previously sewn and though we carefully deconstruct the kimono, previous seam lines, as well as minor blemishes, may need to be worked around or trimmed away.

The inspiring designs, hand work, and the ageless beauty of vintage Japanese textiles make all the extra work so worthwhile. See video below for inspiration on upcycling vintage Japanese textiles.
