This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.

Quietly elegant, this vintage furoshiki has a calm, smoky gray tone with a cream wisteria crest in one corner and kanji characters in the opposite corner. Wisteria often symbolizes grace, longevity, and good fortune. The characters translate to Yamada which is likely the family name of the original owner.

30.5" x 33"

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
