This listing is for a vintage, formal, Japanese kimono called a tomesode. Tomesode (sometimes called kurosode or "Mother of the Bride" kimono) are typically reserved for very formal occasions, such as weddings or performances. There are always at least three - but usually five - family crests on the upper section (one at the neck, one on the back of each sleeve, and one on each side of the collar) and an elegant design that stretches across the entire hemline, with more of the image in the front, where it would be seen best.

This tomesode featurs a bright gold pine bough motif with gold edging to each bough. A white fence provides perspective and a brown hillock at the front hem grounds the scene.

It's slightly unique to have patterning appear on the sleeves and across the collar of a tomesode - and we have never seen the patterning extend behind a family crest - so this is quite unusual.

The family crest is an elaborate design sometimes called "melon" that includes a bellflower in a wisteria wreath.
