Bold geometry and tumbling characters give this vintage haori a strikingly modern look in black, red, beige, and muted yellow. The design forms a scattered collage of Genji-ko incense symbols -- geometric marks originating in the traditional incense-comparison game and associated with chapters of The Tale of Genji. The ikat technique uses resist-dyed threads woven together to create the pattern, producing the characteristic softly blurred edges and subtle irregularities visible throughout the design.

A woman's haori is a traditional Japanese jacket worn over a kimono, designed to provide both warmth and an added layer of formality. Today, these jackets transition effortlessly into modern fashion as a lightweight, open-front layer.
