An unusual, wonderfully eclectic haori, pairing an earthy brown and green botanical design with a dramatic black velvet collar and a surprise of vivid color inside. The ikat-woven fabric is patterned with turquoise-green leafy branches and clusters of rounded white and yellow fruit or berries, their slightly blurred edges giving the design the characteristic softness of pre-dyed ikat threads.

The jacket appears to have been altered or possibly repurposed from an earlier garment with a roomier cut through the waist and visible hand repairs that add a distinctly wabi-sabi character, celebrating its age, use, and importance. Inside, a bright repurposed lining with stylized bamboo and bold florals in coral, orange, yellow, lavender, and green makes an unexpected contrast to the subdued exterior.

This piece shows its history through visible hand repairs, mending, scattered wear, and other signs of age, all contributing to its wonderfully individual wabi-sabi character.
