This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.  Black haori like this are sometimes called "visiting haori" since they were worn for semi-formal occasions, like attending a community gathering.

This haori is amazing and deserves a closer look.  The silk background was so elelgantly woven with a jacquard collage of geometric and floral patterns - reminding us of an art quilt or stained glass mosaic.  On top of that inky silk are circular medallions woven in metallic and urushi lacquered threads. Each roundel blooms with chrysanthemums and peonies, adding warm contrast against the black background. A single paulownia crest below the neck provides a refined finishing touch. 

There is a small discoloration blemish on the front sleeve, see last photo, but still a beautiful jacket to wear or display.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately.
