This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This juban features a large black cormorant bird swooping down off the right shoulder -striking and dramatic! In Japan, fishermen raise cormorants to fish, putting rings around their necks so they can dive to retrieve the fish but can't swallow them. (They are rewarded with smaller fish instead.)

Three geometric bands (stripes and seigaiha waves) extend horizontally behind pale white pine branches and needles.

The over-collar is black with a golden-brown lining, which has a few small holes.

There is some blemishes on the front and back, see last photos.

Juban make great robes and cover ups but watch the video below to see how to layer the juban with a kimono.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.

If you'd like to display the kimono, we offer hanging rods in five colors (brown, black, natural, white, and red) - see the Add a Display Rod? tab below.
