This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just in inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This juban features a large asanoha (star hemp) pattern created with tight clusters of kanoko (fawn spot) shibori. The larger stylized pattern gives a more mid-century modern aesthetic and has an optical illusion quality. The traditional deep-rooted shibori technique mixed with the bolder, large patterning make this kimono an interesting and collectible piece of art.

The over-collar is gray with a blue lining.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
