This listing is for a vintage Japanese child's yukata (cotton kimono) meant for a little boy.  These are rarely worn these days but were commonly used as robes at home up until the 1950s in rural Japan and might still be seen today in countryside villages. See slide show below for how adorable these can be!

This kimono is cotton, in the traditional blue and white palette, with a printed design that mimics an ikat cross pattern.  Tapered sleeves suggest this was for wearing at home where longer or boxier sleeves would get in the way of chores.

Children's kimono often come with two long ties sewn to each side of the front collar.  The right-side tie would be threaded behind the left side kimono panel, through the opening under the arm, around the back, and tied with the tie from the left side. A belt, sash or obi would then be tied over that for a finished look.  (We offer a simple cotton version of this as an add-on option.)

This yukata is still wearable but please check the measurements - they run small.  These also make for a fun display piece in a child's room or anywhere a touch of Japanese decor would liven up the room.

We also offer display rods but only in 30" widths (which is too short for this item) or 60" widths (which may be too long unless you have something else to display alongside of it).  If you would like a custom-width rod, email us for details.
