This charming vintage print was part of a series of pencil and charcoal sketches done by US military artists in 1945.  It was part of an 18-piece collection of similar pencil sketches, all done by US Military artists to document post-war Japan., called "Sketches of Japan 1945".

This vintage print reproduces an original pencil drawing portraying a mother reading while carrying a sleeping child on her back, capturing a quiet and intimate moment of everyday life.  The title is Kobe Commuter, so perhaps the artist drew this on a train or bus.

Rendered in delicate grayscale tones with fine draftsmanship and expressive detail, it is an appealing decorative piece for collectors of figurative art, family-themed imagery, and mid-century Japanese-inspired prints.
