This listing is for a traditional vintage furisode kimono originally created for a young, unmarried woman.

You'll have to look closely at the shoulder and front panel to find just the head and neck of a blue-feathered peacock. Then follow the imagery past the blue blossoms that cover the body and find the long, trailing tail feathers in gray with pink accents on the plume end. So subtle!

The background silk is shaded in a very light gray-to-purple - a difficult thing to achieve. Then you'll see the orange-shaded edges of the lining that provide a glimpse of mystery as they might gently flap as the kimono-wearer walk along.

There are a few subtle blemishes - see last photo - but they might be difficult to find among the dense floral design.

Furisode are worn for formal events, such as Seijin-no-hi (Coming of Age Day, sometimes translated as Adults Day) in early January. Furisode are also worn for weddings, recitals, receptions, and other celebrations calling for formal attire. Note the long sleeves (furi = long, sode = sleeves) sometimes called "butterfly sleeves", which flow with grace when she gestures, attracting male attention!
