This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We often display these jackets inside out to show the lining, and they could be worn this way - inside out - as well; a style that is becoming trendy among Japanese youth. See video below for how haori are worn these days.

The lining of this man's kimono jacket features a traditional bamboo motif beautifully done in kanoko (fawn spot) shibori (tie dye resist technique). Look closely to still see the slight pucker along the edges of the pattern - a remnant from the stitching that bound the silk to create the design.

Balancing out the design are two objects - inro and tabako-ire. An inro is a small, rounded case meant to carry personal items and often worn attached to the obi around the waist. The longer case is a tabako-ire which typically holds tobacco or another personal item. These two elements look painted and framed on ragged edged paper.

The outer jacket fabric is shades of blue with an overall tiny geometric grid.

If you need a display rod to hang your purchase, we offer 60" wooden rods - see tab below.
